Located just 5 miles from the lodge, this lesser-known waterfall on the West Branch of the Whitefish River offers the perfect quick escape into the heart of the Upper Peninsula.

You’ll follow a scenic route through forested paths before arriving at what is more of a series of large rapids than a dramatic waterfall.

Unlike some of the towering waterfalls nearby, Whitefish Falls invites you to take off your shoes, wade into the cool water, and explore the rocks along the river. Directions from Bearing North Lodge

Finding Whitefish Falls is easy! Here are the directions from the lodge:

1. Turn left in Trenary onto M-67 S (0.6 mi)

2. Turn right onto US-41 N (3.6 mi)

3. Turn left onto State Forest Campground Rd, where you’ll find parking and access to the trailhead.

   
   

Don't be Confused

While Whitefish Falls is a lovely spot to explore, don’t confuse it with the nearby Laughing Whitefish Falls, which boasts a 100-foot drop and is much more dramatic. (We’ll cover that one in a future blog post!) Whitefish Falls is all about a laid-back experience—perfect for a quick stop to frog around, enjoy nature, and relax in the cool waters.
