A Peek into Floyd's Life
Floyd Kallio was a man of many talents and passions. Born and raised in the Trenary area, he had a deep connection to the land and the community. From running Trenary's original gas station and body shop to teaching autobody at Bay De Noc Community College, Floyd's life was a tapestry of hard work, dedication, and love for his family. His memoir, "Memories of Floyd M. Kallio," offers a unique glimpse into his life, filled with anecdotes and reflections that paint a vivid picture of his journey.
Building Bearing North Lodge
In 1969, Floyd and his wife Ida built what is now Bearing North Lodge, a dream realized through Floyd's favorite house plans. The lodge's structure itself tells a story, with large wooden beams taken from an old railroad bridge, adding a touch of historical elegance. Today, Floyd’s daughter, Hope Kallio, lovingly owns and operates the lodge, ensuring that her father's legacy continues to inspire and welcome guests from all over.
