We are beyond thrilled to share the heartfelt review from one of our very first guests, the Allen family, who recently stayed at Bearing North Lodge! Their kind words brought smiles to our faces and perfectly captured the magic of the lodge. Here's a glimpse into their unforgettable Upper Peninsula adventure:

Dear Maureen and Hope,

Thank you for such a wonderful stay! This place is pure U.P. charm! An unexpected mix of rich history and modern amenities! Love the '70s era bathroom fixtures and all the historic pieces inside and out!

Our 10-year-old enjoyed catching crayfish, frogs, and tadpoles, especially at night. Travel was easy from this central location. We went to Black Rocks, Munising, and Laughing Whitefish Falls.

A beautiful fire pit and night sky! Listening to the sounds of the river! A heron said hello and maybe goodbye this morning.

I personally enjoyed reading Floyd Kallio's memoir, although I did not finish it. It brought back memories of my grandfather, a proud Finnish Yooper! The Salos and Jacksons of Ironwood to be exact. A farm kid, too!

We will cherish our memories here, and we will be back!

Thank you, The Allen Family.

The Allens' stay perfectly highlights the essence of Bearing North Lodge: a place where history, nature, and family fun come together. From catching crayfish in the Whitefish River to gathering around the fire pit under a blanket of stars, their trip was filled with memorable experiences.

Hearing about their son’s joy catching frogs and tadpoles reminds us why we love sharing this place with families. And we’re delighted that Floyd Kallio’s memoir resonated with them, evoking a deep personal connection to the Upper Peninsula’s Finnish heritage.

We can’t wait to welcome the Allens back to make even more cherished memories!
