With up to 200 inches of snow, Winter is truly magical in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and Bearing North Lodge is the perfect cozy retreat to experience it all. Whether you're a snowshoe enthusiast, snowmobiler, skiier, hunter, nature lover or simply love the idea of curling up by a warm fire as the snow falls outside, our lodge offers the ideal winter escape.
A Warm Welcome (Literally!)
At Bearing North Lodge, comfort is our priority during those chilly winter months. Our fireplace is the heart of the lodge, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere where you can thaw out after a day of outdoor fun. There’s nothing like sipping hot cocoa, listening to the crackle of the fire, and watching the snow blanket the forest outside.

Snowshoe Right from the Doorstep

One of the joys of staying at Bearing North Lodge is the ability to snowshoe right from the lodge. With free snowshoes available for guests, there's no need to pack your own gear! Wander the quiet, snow-covered trails surrounding the lodge and immerse yourself in the beauty of a true winter wonderland. The gentle crunch of snow underfoot and the crisp air will make for a serene experience.
Snowmobile Paradise
Calling all snowmobilers! While the nearest snowmobile trail is about 10 miles away, we’ve got you covered. We offer exclusive, secure private parking near the trailhead in Chatham, MI, making it easy for you to hit the trails without hassle. At the lodge, you can also ride your snowmobiles on our large hay field and the local county roads, which are open for snowmobile use. With plenty of trailer parking in our spacious circular driveway, Bearing North Lodge is the perfect base for your snowmobiling crew.
Cross-Country Skiing and More

Cross-country skiing enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that some of the best skiing spots are just a short drive from the lodge. But for now, know that snowshoers and skiers alike will find endless opportunities for exploration in the pristine wilderness of the Upper Peninsula.
No Worries with Our Snow Guarantee
Planning a winter trip can sometimes be a gamble when it comes to snow conditions. But at Bearing North Lodge, we’ve got you covered with our Snow Guarantee Policy. We know that snowmobiling and other winter activities rely on having plenty of fresh snow, and we want to make sure your stay is as enjoyable as possible. Here’s how our Snow Guarantee works:
Full Refund: If snow conditions are inadequate and you cancel within 7 days of booking, you'll receive a full refund.
Partial Refund: If you cancel within 2 days of your booking due to insufficient snow, you'll still get an 80% refund.
Verification: We’ll assess snow conditions based on local weather reports and trail updates, so you know exactly what to expect.
This policy gives you peace of mind when booking your winter escape. Plus, our standard cancellation policy remains in effect for any non-snow-related changes to your plans.
